The Horrible Disease - SARS

Julie Chen – the eleventh grader

People were in state of panic when there was the outbreak of the SARS. SARS was dangerous because it would kill people. Everybody on the street wore masks, and it caused the shortage of mask. If you coughed or sneezed at public places, everyone would look at you. People became very nervous and took their temperatures every day. Teachers also took students’ temperatures. If everyone had cold symptoms, he or she should stay at home and avoid going out. It was a hard time to shop owners because of the decrease of customers. Many people didn’t go out even it was weekend. Children felt bored because parents didn’t let them go out to play. There were many inconveniences and troubles at the SARS time, but it made us care about our health.

People were in a state of panic when SARS broke out years ago. SARS was a dangerous and deadly disease because it could kill people easily if proper treatments were not in place and in time. When it hit Taiwan, everybody on the street wore a mask, which caused the shortage of masks. If you coughed or sneezed at public places, everyone would look at you with eyebrows knit. People became very nervous and took their temperatures every day. Teachers also took students’ temperatures. Anyone who was afraid of SARS should stay at home and not go out even on weekends. It was a hard time for shop owners to run their business because of the dramatic decrease of their customers. Children felt bored because parents didn’t allow them to hang out with their friends. There were many inconveniences and troubles during the SARS period, but it made us care about our health.
