文法 – 形容詞子句 (10)

之前形容詞子句只提到關係代名詞，尚未提到關係副詞。如同關係代名詞，關係副詞也是形容或修飾一個名詞。以關係副詞引導出來的形容詞子句，也稱為關係子句，它常用到的關係副詞如下：

when    – 用來修飾時間。

where    – 用來修飾地方。

why      – 用來修飾原因。

how       –用來修飾方式或方法。

各類關係副詞引導出來的形容詞子句(續)：

3)   why的例句

      -     This is not a good excuse why you came to office late this morning.

            = This is not a good excuse for which you came to office late this morning. (why = for which)

            = This is not a good excuse you came to office late this morning.

            (省略why)

      主要子句：            this is not a good excuse

            形容詞子句： why you came to office late this morning

            先行詞：          excuse

            why是形容詞子句的關係副詞

      -     We don’t know the reason why Ken didn’t come to the meeting.

            (形容詞子句)

            主要子句：      we don’t know the reason

            形容詞子句： why Ken didn’t come to the meeting

            先行詞：          reason

            why是形容詞子句的關係副詞

            = We don’t know why Ken didn’t come to the meeting. (名詞子句)

            (省略 the reason)

            = We don’t know the reason Ken didn’t come to the meeting.

-    The reason why Nick doesn’t like Tammy is very important.

            這個句子的主詞：      the reason

            這個句子的動詞：      is

            這個句子的補語：      very important

            形容詞子句：           why Nick doesn’t like Tammy ()

            why是形容詞子句的關係副詞

            整句的意思是：           Nick不喜歡Tammy的原因是很重要的。

      = The reason Nick doesn’t like Tammy is very important.

      = Why Nick doesn’t like Tammy is very important. (名詞子句)
