A Different Perspective

Helen Huang – Freshman

Had it not been for the peculiar experience I had a month ago, I would not have realized how hard it could be a parent.  I was arguing with my dad because of the pressure he put on me.  Furious, I slammed my bedroom door on his face and jumped to bed.  Much to my astonishment, when I looked into mirror the next day, instead of my face, I saw my father’s stern-looking eyes staring at me!  It seemed that my dad and I somewhat exchanged our bodies.

The following day was literally a torture. I went to his office and intended to act normal, while piles of work and meeting overwhelmed me.  Not until then did I understand what my father have to accomplish every day was never easier than mine.  When I got home, exhausted, I found Dad seemed weary too.  He told me he was too far from high school to recall those assignments students have to do.  Upon expressing how we felt, we smiled at each other and apologized, which switch us back again.  It was the experience that made both of us learn to put ourselves in each other’s shoes.  After all, what we had to do was far beyond our conceit.

A Different Perspective

Helen Huang – Freshman

Had it not been for the peculiar experience I had a month ago, I would not have realized how hard and tough it could be a parent.  One day, my dad saw me flipping over a magazine in the living room after I watched TV, and he asked me to return to my room to study.  Feeling a bit angry and not very comfortable, I argued with him about the pressure he put on me slamming my door shut in his face and jumping to the bed.  Very much to my astonishment, when looking into the mirror the next morning, instead of my face, I saw my father’s stern-looking eyes staring at me!  “Oh my God, my dad and I have our bodies switched!” I said to myself.

The following day was literally a torture, let alone a mission impossible.  However, I still went to his office and intended to act normal, while several meeting were waiting for me and piles of work overwhelmed me.  Not until then did I realize what my father have done every day was never easier and less stressful than mine.  When I got home, exhausted and frustrated, I found Dad baffled and worn out.  He told me he was too far from high school to recall those assignments students had to do.  Upon expressing how we felt, we smiled at the same time and apologized to each other, which suddenly let us switch back and restore to what we should be.  It was an once-in-a-blue-moon experience that made both of us learn to put ourselves in each other’s shoes.  After all, what we had to do was far beyond our conceit.
