Natural Disasters (by 12th grader)

There are two main natural disasters in Taiwan.  One is earthquakes and the other is typhoon.  Typhoons usually happen in summer because a low air pressure is caused by a hot weather on the ocean, and earthquakes can happen anytime due to the motion of the earth’s tectonic plates.  Unfortunately, Taiwan is on the ring of fire in Pacific Ocean.

When these two natural disasters coming, they always cause great damage.  Typhoons bring heavy rain and fierce wind, which cause severe flood especially in the mountain area.  Contrary to typhoons, earthquakes usually cause fire disasters and break down our houses.  Thus, it is important to prevent these disasters.  Thanks to the weather forecast, we can get the information of typhoons before it approaches us.  So we can prepare some bags full of sand and repair the broken windows to reduce the damage that rain cause.  However, different from typhoons, earthquakes cannot be predicted before it happen.  So we just can perform the flee lines in our daily life to reduce the number of people who die or hurt in earthquakes.

Although natural disasters are terrible, there are lots of preventive actions and precautionary measures that we can do.  Therefore, if we can make perfect preparation, it’ll be fine when they come to us.

There are two main natural disasters in Taiwan.  One is the earthquake and the other is the typhoon.  The typhoon usually happens in summer in Pacific Ocean because a low air pressure is caused by a hot weather on the ocean, while the earthquake can happen anytime due to the motion of the earth’s tectonic plates.  Unfortunately, Taiwan is located at the west edge of Pacific Ocean.  What’s worse, Taiwan is on the ring of fire.

When these two natural disasters come, they always cause great damage.  Typhoons bring heavy rain and fierce wind, which cause severe floods and landslides especially in the mountainous area.  Contrary to typhoons, earthquakes usually cause fire and make buildings and houses collapsed.   Thus, it is important to prevent these disasters.  Thanks to the weather forecast, we can get quite exact typhoon information before they approach us.  So we’ll stay at home and prepare some bags full of sand and repair broken windows to reduce the damage caused.  However, different from typhoons, earthquakes cannot be predicted before they happen.  In that way, we need to have regular earthquake drills so we can practice what we are supposed to do during earthquakes, such as how to protect us from heavy falling objects and how to escape.

Although natural disasters are terrible, there are still lots of preventive actions and precautionary measures we can do.  Therefore, if we can have good and solid preparation, we’ll be safer when they occur.
