文法 – 形容詞子句 (9)

之前形容詞子句只提到關係代名詞，尚未提到關係副詞。如同關係代名詞，關係副詞也是形容或修飾一個名詞。以關係副詞引導出來的形容詞子句，也稱為關係子句，它常用到的關係副詞如下：

when    – 用來修飾時間。

where    – 用來修飾地方。

why      – 用來修飾原因。

how       –用來修飾方式或方法。

各類關係副詞引導出來的形容詞子句(續)：

2)   where的例句

      -     The large house where they live is over one hundred million dollars.

            = The large house in which they live is over one hundred million dollars. (where = in which)

            = The large house which they live in is over one hundred million dollars. (where = in which)

            = The large house they live in is over one hundred million dollars.

            (省略which)

            主要子句：      the large house is over one hundred million dollars

            形容詞子句： where they live

            先行詞：          house

            where是形容詞子句的地方關係副詞

      -     I didn’t know the place where he went.

            = I didn’t know where he went. (名詞子句)

            = I didn’t know the place to which he went. (where = to which)

            (形容詞子句)

            = I didn’t know the place he went to. (省略where) (形容詞子句)

            主要子句：      I didn’t know the place.

            形容詞子句： where he went

            先行詞：          the place

            where是形容詞子句的地方關係副詞

      -     The twins went to Taipei where their grandparents live.

            = The twins went to Taipei in which their grandparents live.

            (where = in which)

            = The twins went to Taipei which their grandparents live in.

            (where = in which)

            = The twins went to Taipei their grandparents live in. (省略where)

            主要子句：      the twins went to Taipei

            形容詞子句： where their grandparents live

            先行詞：          Taipei

            where是形容詞子句中的地方關係副詞
