學測指考英文寫作 – Public Morality

Public Morality (by 11th grader)

Andy – the 11th grader

I feel angry for the thing I see today.  A woman was walking her dog in the park while I was jogging.  According to her appearance, the woman seemed to be wealthy and all her behavior showed that she was a person with high self-esteem.  I see myself to be a friendly person at most of time, but I wouldn’t like to talk with or even approach this kind of people because they are often hard to get along with.  However, the situation became quite different this time.

While I was enjoying the breeze and the fresh air while jogging, I saw the woman let the dog poo and pee on the ground.  At first, I thought it might be an accident due to lack of training of the dog, and the woman would clean up immediately.  Nevertheless, the truth proved that I was wrong.  Even though the woman knew I saw what had happen, she decided to turn around, walking away and doing nothing.

I was furious about her conduct, running to her and telling her to clean her dog’s poo, but her reply made me even angrier.  She said that, “Cleaning it up isn’t what I want to do.  There will be a janitor from city government to do it for me.”  I almost couldn’t control myself and gave her a punch, but I didn’t do it at the last moment.  I told her that I would do the clean up this time, not because she didn’t want to but because whoever was morality will do it.  Confused and surprised as she was, she didn’t say anything and still walked her dog as there was nothing happened.  Hope that she could understand what I want to teach her.

I felt angry about what I saw this morning.  A woman was walking her dog in the park while I was jogging.  According to her appearance, the woman seemed to be wealthy and all her behavior showed that she was a decent person.  As for me, I am regarded as a friendly person most of the time, but I wouldn’t like to talk with or even approach this kind of people because they are often hard to get along with because of high self-esteem.  However, the situation became quite different this time.

Jogging, and enjoying breeze and fresh air inside the community park, the woman let her dog poo and pee on the ground.  Upon seeing that, I thought at first it might be an accident due to lack of strict training of the dog and the woman would clean up immediately.  Nevertheless, the truth told me that I was wrong.  Even though the woman knew I stood not far away and saw what had happened, she decided to turn around, walking away and doing nothing.

I was furious about her conduct as if she didn’t do anything, running to her and telling her to clean her dog’s poo, but her reply made me much more furious.  She said that, “Cleaning it up isn’t what I want to do.  There will be a janitor from city government to do it for me.”  I almost couldn’t control myself and gave her a punch, but I didn’t do it at the very last moment.  I told her that I would do the clean-up this time, not because she didn’t want to but because whoever had public morality would do it.  Surprised and speechless as she was, she didn’t say anything and still walked her dog as though nothing happened.  I virtually hit the ceiling when I saw her response.  But, I tried hard to keep my composure in the hope that she would do what she should do one day.
